I'm in love with oil painting - I love the smell of it in the studio, the texture of the paints as I blend colors on my palette, and the focused movements of my brush gliding back and forth over the canvas.
Because it's such an intoxicating creative experience for me, I aspire to paint enchanting figures, creatures and scenes that deliver an intoxicating visual experience for the viewer.
Over the years I've had quite a few near-death experiences where I expired during acute asthma attacks and was then medically revived. Oil painting allows me to blend some of the enigmatic impressions I recall from "the other side," with nostalgic memories from my past and dreamy fantasies from my imagination.
When I'm satisfied that a work is finished, I feel a sense of peace.
It lingers long enough for me to enjoy the beauty of my garden, spend time with family, wander the cobblestone streets of Ajijic and stroll the shores of Lake Chapala before being called back to the studio to create again.
